2013 Chairman's Fitness Challenge
To: All Employees
I am excited to announce that it is time to kick off the 2013 Chairman’s Fitness Challenge for TDCJ and Windham employees. This year’s activities include four challenges with a goal to increase our agency-wide total points for three quarters and a maintenance quarter during the holidays. Our theme for the year is “Our Steps to 13 in 2013,” with the ultimate goal of 13 million overall points for the fourth quarter. Since overall points for the 4th quarter 2012 challenge reached roughly 8 million, this is a big challenge, but I know if we work together we can meet, or even exceed the 2013 goal. Administrative leave will be awarded each quarter to every employee who completes that quarter’s challenge in its entirety.
The kick-off challenge will be a five-week challenge with a goal of 225 points per week for each participating employee and a total of 9 million agency-wide points for the quarter. This event is designed to encourage all employees to engage in physical fitness activities and encourage team participation agency wide. Registration for the first challenge will begin Monday, October 15, 2012 with the challenge beginning Monday October 22, 2012 and ending Sunday, November 25, 2012.
As an additional challenge for 2013, I have set a weekly minimum goal of 2,500 points for myself! I would like to challenge those of you who can, to join me in the Chairman’s Special Platinum Challenge for achieving 2,500 points each week. Use any of the activities on the Exercise Equivalents chart to reach the goal. A special recognition will be given to those who meet this goal each week of the challenge.
The second quarter challenge will be a four-week event during the holiday season with a goal to maintain 225 points per week individually and 9 million agency-wide points for the quarter. For the third quarter challenge, the individual points required to successfully complete the challenge will increase to 240 weekly and the goal for agency-wide points will increase to 11 million for the five-week challenge. The fourth quarter challenge will require participants to reach 250 points weekly with the final agency-wide point total of 13 million to reach our goal for the challenge.
Participants will use the 2013 Chairman’s Fitness Challenge Exercise Equivalents chart to report points to your Wellness Representative and may use any physical activity, or a combination of activities listed on the chart to reach the weekly goal. Remember, the primary goal of the Chairman’s Fitness Challenge is to encourage people to participate in regular physical activity to improve overall health. More participants are needed in order to reach the goal of 13 million points in 2013 so every participating employee is asked to encourage 13 of your coworkers to participate.
Determination and consistency is essential to a successful exercise and nutritional program so I want to encourage all employees to commit to the challenge and to the goal of a healthier lifestyle. Commit to helping meet the goal, “Our Steps to 13 in 2013”. You will feel healthier because of it!
