When you report for screening, bring your completed State of Texas Application for Employment, TDCJ Employment Application Supplement and all the required documents with you. Do not mail in your application.
At the time you report for screening, you must meet the basic eligibility criteria for a Correctional Officer position. You must also be able to perform the essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation. See the attached lists.
If you are eligible, you will be screened. The first part of screening is a written pre-employment test. This test consists of a total of 100 multiple-choice questions. It has five parts: Memory and Observation, Situational Reasoning, Reading Comprehension/Deductive Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Arithmetic. If you require special devices or extra time to take the test, notify us in advance. Call (936) 437-4098. If you pass the test, you will be interviewed. The test and interview process will take 3 to 8 hours, depending on the time of your interview.
After screening, we will review your qualifications. If you are to be considered further, we will conduct a background investigation. When this is complete, you will be notified.
If you have already interviewed for a TDCJ Correctional Officer position at any location within the past 12 months, including at a college, you are not yet eligible to reapply. Do not report for screening at this time.
It is important that you bring the documents and copies listed in the application with you when you report for screening. Addresses for previous employers should be verified to ensure that your application contains accurate and complete mailing addresses. Missing documents and incorrect or incomplete addresses will significantly delay your application.
Any travel expenses to and from the screening location will be your responsibility. You are encouraged not to bring family and friends with you, as a waiting area is usually not available. When you report for screening, you may not wear short shorts, exposed shoulders or midriff, see-through clothing or T-shirts with offensive language or illustrations. Bring only the documents you need for screening. Secure purses, backpacks, briefcases and other such containers in your vehicle. Do not carry any weapons, electronic devices, or alcohol/tobacco products on your person to the screening location.
