The Texas Victim Assistance Training (TVAT) Online is a state-wide foundational victim assistance training focused on victim-centered service delivery and professional development that complements other victim services initiatives and enables new advocates to acquire baseline professional skills and competence.
Completion of the training will provide victim services professionals with the necessary tools for providing consistent and appropriate services to crime victims, working collaboratively with partner agencies when serving victims, and providing a model of professionalism for victim service practitioners who serve our community and enhance our quality of life.
TVAT Online was designed to provide an educational baseline for new victim services advocates (those with less than 3 years experience), as well as other criminal justice professionals such as probation and parole officers, attorneys, law enforcement, etc.
TVAT Online is designed to be taken as the student's schedule permits. Students may log into and out of the training to review the modules on their own timeframe. Since TVAT Online is a web-based training, students can complete the training wherever they have access to a web browser. Once the student logs back into the training, they can simply start where they left off.
TVAT Online consists of four distinct modules (click on the title for a description of the module):
Objectives are detailed at the beginning of each module. All modules include links to printable resource documents and Texas-based victim services organizations that can provide additional assistance to both new and veteran victim services professionals. For your convenience, a Resource Document that alphabetically lists the links within the training is provided once you register. Instructions on how to "bookmark" the Resource Document/webpage are available once you open/click on the Resource Document link. Links to videos of victims' statements from the Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center Victim Impact: Listen and Learn, and module-specific scenarios and quizzes are also provided to emphasize the training materials.
A certificate of completion will be generated and mailed to the student when the four modules, corresponding quizzes, and evaluation have been completed.
