Terry County Ministry Receives Governor’s 2014 Criminal Justice Volunteer Award
(Austin) – During ceremonies in Austin today, Jerold Baldwin accepted the Governor’s 2012 Criminal Justice Volunteer “Community Service” Award on behalf of the Terry County Christian Association.
The award was presented by Oliver Bell, Chairman of the Texas Board of Criminal Justice, and TDCJ Executive Director Brad Livingston.
“These men and women give their time not for monetary reward,” said Livingston. “They volunteer because they have a personal passion in seeing others succeed. We are grateful for their selfless dedication.”
Volunteers from the Terry County Christian Association facilitate ninety percent of the 20 classes and services held each week at the Jim Rudd Unit in Brownfield. Terry County Christian Association volunteers go the extra mile because they not only minister to the incarcerated but also to those who are affected by the incarceration of their loved ones.
The volunteers also hold community seminars including Walk to Emmaus and Kairos Outside. Walk to Emmaus is a weekend-long seminar for the previously incarcerated and for those offenders who need guidance. Kairos Outside is a weekend-long seminar for women who are dealing with their loved ones being incarcerated.
Terry County Christian Association also contributes meals during the Fallen Officer Service and Officer Appreciation functions. The volunteers are also at the forefront of the construction of a new unit Chapel.
For their dedication the Terry County Christian Association has been chosen to receive the Community Service volunteer award.
Terry County Christian Association is one of 6 organizations and 15 individuals from across the state recognized today for their efforts to help inmates and those who are on parole or probation.
