The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services granted the city of Longview $240,000 over three years to mentor local children.

Partners in Prevention plans mentor services for 120 children annually who have a parental figure incarcerated in a state or federal prison. Statistics from the city say seven in 10 children of prisoners are likely to become imprisoned at some point in their lives.

Partners is seeking adult volunteers for area youth ranging in age from elementary through high school. Call (903) 237-1019 for information or to register for mentor training.
