More than eight of every ten offenders have a drug, alcohol, or related problem. Nearly half have suffered from physical and emotional abuse in their life.

You need to be aware of your limitations and insist your mentee seek professional help. You need to know the terms of their supervision and if the need arises, insist they meet the treatment requirements of their release.

You are required by law to notify law enforcement authorities if you suspect your mentee intends to harm themselves or others.
