The role of the mentor is to provide a positive role model, friendship, and counseling in life skills.

All mentors must meet the following qualifications:

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must be the same gender as the mentee
• Must be an approved volunteer

Employees of TDCJ are not allowed to be mentors.

Mentors must receive additional training and that is the purpose of this course.

Mentors must attend monthly debriefings conducted by the unit chaplain.
