OIG Eligibility Criteria

  • Ninety semester hours from a college or university that is accredited.

  • College can be substituted for prior law enforcement experience, correctional custody/officer, or jailer experience.

  • Currently holds an active Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) Peace Officer license and meet all current TCLEOSE requirements.

Or

  • Bachelors degree with major course work in criminal justice (preferred).

  • Experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, correctional custody/officer, or jailer experience in a county, state, or federal correctional system (preferred).

  • Upon selection, applicants will be required to successfully complete a TCLEOSE pre-service law enforcement training program selected and funded by the OIG.

Or

  • Ten years full-time, wage-earning experience as a correctional supervisor.

  • Gang intelligence experience preferred.

  • Upon selection, applicants will be required to successfully complete a TCLEOSE pre-service law enforcement training program selected and funded by the OIG.
