Office of the Inspector General
Physical Readiness Program
Schedule C Fitness Requirements
Applicants for the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Schedule C positions will be required by Texas Government Code Chapter 614, Subchapter H, Section 614.152, to meet established minimum physical fitness standards as a part of the OIG Physical Readiness Program.
The Physical Readiness Program will provide reasonable assurance that each applicant can perform law enforcement job functions that require physical fitness. The components of physical readiness involve cardiovascular endurance, anaerobic power, muscular strength and endurance, explosive leg power, and agility.
Law enforcement Schedule C positions must be capable of safely and effectively performing all duty assignments without undue risk to themselves, other members, and the general public.
The testing shall be accomplished with the Concept 2 Rowing System. This system has been adopted by numerous law enforcement agencies including the Texas Department of Public Safety. The system has accumulated significant data against which to measure the results of the OIG testing.
Each incumbent peace officer and each applicant will be asked to complete a 2000 meter exercise using the Concept 2 Rowing System. The height, weight, age, gender and time to complete the exercise will be utilized to determine the result of each employee’s test.
Each test score is unique to the particular employee or applicant. The score tabulates the outcome based upon the age, gender, height and weight of each person along with the time required to complete the complete exercise. The score is represented in a percentage of the universe of individuals who have taken this test. For example: A peace officer who takes this test and performs at a 30% rate is performing in the top 70% of all those persons who have taken the test.
All applicants and incumbent peace officers must perform at a rate of 25% or better of the universe of individuals who have taken the test to be considered as having successfully completed the testing.
