The Texas Department of Criminal Justice provides the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) because the Agency cares about each employee. Very simply, the EAP provides exactly what its name implies - assistance to employees. This program provides confidential, professional assistance to help employees and their families resolve problems.

Sometimes our problems become too much for us to handle and they affect our personal happiness, our family relationships, our work performance, and even our health. When this occurs, we often need professional help in resolving these issues. Without proper attention, our problems usually become worse with unpleasant and expensive consequences.

How does EAP work?

EAP counselors are not employees of TDCJ. The Agency contracts the services of a qualified counseling resource that specializes in the assessment of personal problems. The EAP is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The employee or an employee's family member may make a call for help. Simply call your EAP at (866) 832-5927 and the counselor will discuss any problems that you may have. If further help is needed, the counselor will assist you in obtaining help.

Who will know that I called EAP?

Neither the Agency, nor your co-workers will have any knowledge of your call. Confidentiality is assured.

What will this service cost me?

Calls to the EAP are offered free of charge. If you need additional help, you and your counselor can explore the available resources that are financially possible for you. Many services may be covered by medical insurance.

What are some of the reasons I could call the EAP?

  • Parenting Skills
  • Depression
  • Anxiety/Stress
  • Grief
  • Marital Problems
  • Legal Troubles
  • Anger
  • Eating Disorders

Remember -- Your Employee Assistance Program is:

  • Confidential: All information is strictly between you and the counselor.
  • Simple: a toll-free call starts the process. (866) 832-5927
