Consider the career advancement opportunities within Texas Department of Criminal Justice.  You can get your correctional career started, no experience required, by applying for a Correctional Officer position.  If you meet the Eligibility Criteria, you can begin the Correctional Officer application process today by requesting Correctional Officer screening.

If you apply and are hired through the regular applicant process, you will be paid while you attend the TDCJ Training Academy.  Once you become a Correctional Officer I (CO-I) you can advance up the career ladder to a Correctional Officer V (CO-V) based upon satisfactory active service.

Career Advancement Opportunities

If you choose a TDCJ Correctional Career, you may wish to pursue other advancement opportunities.  The following positions are supervisory positions and are not included in a career ladder.  These positions are posted as vacancies occur, and qualified applicants must apply for specific vacancies.

Additional Information

Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Major positions are supervisory positions and are not included in a career ladder. Assistant Warden and Warden positions are posted annually.  Applications submitted for annual postings are retained on file for utilization in selection for future vacancies until the posting expires.
