The chief responsibility of Governmental Affairs is ensuring that the agency implements, in a timely fashion, all relevant legislation passed by the Texas legislature. During the 82nd Legislative Session (2011) approximately 110 bills passed that directly or indirectly affected the agency. Governmental Affairs also coordinates with legislative committees to assist in supplying departmental statistics and resource information for committee members; identifies the proper agency personnel needed for specific committee meeting agendas; assists the Chief of Staff in the coordination of special projects; and responds to inquiries from various legislative and executive branch offices concerning the agency.
Media Services provides audiovisual, meeting support, and publication services to the agency and the Board of Criminal Justice.
Audiovisual services include production of training, recruitment, and informational videos as well as digital image processing, printing, and archiving. Meeting support services include audio recording, public address and presentation technology support. Publication services include composition, design and layout of the agency’s bimonthly newsletter Criminal Justice Connections, the TDCJ Annual Review, and the TDCJ Phone and Address Directory.
