The Offender Transportation Department is headquartered at one of the satellite offices located at the Byrd Unit in Huntsville. There are five additional regional satellite offices located across the state in Amarillo, Abilene, Tennessee Colony, Rosharon, and Beeville. This department is responsible for operating a fleet of vehicles consisting of 121 buses, 64 vans, six vans used for the physically-disabled and two sedans.
More than 4.6 million miles were traveled and 547,630 offenders were transported in FY12. The Offender Transportation Department works closely with Classification and Records to ensure timely, efficient, and safe offender transports.
