Texas Department of Criminal Justice
The mission of the Classification and Records Department is to develop and provide accurate information for effective offender management, creating an environment that ensures the safety and security of the public, staff and offenders. We will provide quality services to our internal and external customers while responding to the ever-changing agency needs and legislative mandates in an ethical and proactive manner.
Classification and Records Department schedules, receives, and processes offenders for intake, release, and transfers for the Correctional Institutions Division. The department maintains records on these offenders and serves as the principal repository for prison-sentenced offender records for the agency. The Classification and Records Department uses a rational, objective classification tool to systematically group offenders with respect to security and treatment needs. The department provides oversight, training, and technical support for all unit-based classification, countroom, intake, and classification committees.
The Assistant Director for Classification and Records also supervises the management of budgetary and human resources staff related to the Classification and Records Department and is responsible for the overall management and application of all TDCJ Classification Plans, policies, and procedures.
