Safe Prisons Program

The primary focus for the Safe Prisons Program Management Office (SPPMO) is to prevent offender sexual abuse in confinement and limit the number of offender on offender sexual assaults. The SPPMO has developed various strategies to educate offenders and correctional staff concerning the importance of preventing, detecting, and reporting sexual assaults, extortion and offender physical assaults. One particular strategy is the process of offenders educating offenders (Peer Education) on sexual assault awareness. The SPPMO provides training and technical oversight for regional and unit level staff who process information regarding offender victims and predators. The SPPMO is responsible for database management regarding sexual assaults.
