Safe Prisons Program

The primary focus of the Safe Prisons Program is to to maintain a zero tolerance standard for all forms of sexual abuse of offenders. The Safe Prisons Program Management Office (SPPMO) acts as a clearinghouse of information and provides data analyses for results based decisions that contribute to positive change and a safer prison environment. The SPPMO has developed various strategies to educate offenders and correctional staff concerning the importance of preventing, detecting, and reporting sexual abuse, extortion, and offender physical abuse. One particular strategy is the process of offenders educating offenders, Peer Education on sexual abuse awareness. The SPPMO provides training and technical oversight for regional and unit level staff who process information regarding offender victims and predators. The SPPMO is responsible for database management regarding offender on offender sexual abuse.
