Texas Department of Criminal Justice
Individuals convicted of a capital offense and sentenced to Death are transported from the county of conviction to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Correctional Institutions Division. The TDCJ CID is charged with confining these offenders, and carrying out punishment once an execution date is set by the sentencing court. Male Death Row offenders are currently confined at the Polunsky Unit and female Death Row offenders are confined at the Mountain View Unit.
Statistics regarding Death Row offenders and executions are maintained by the TDCJ Executive Services and the TDCJ Public Information Office.
