Security Threat Group officer chosen 2011 Polunsky Award winner

Former Texas Board of Criminal Justice Chairman Allan Polunsky (right) congratulates Correctional Officer Gary Cairns, the 2011 Allan B. Polunsky Unit Employee of the Year Award winner, at an August ceremony.

Currently assigned to the unit's Security Threat Group management team, award recipient Officer Gary Cairns began his career at the Polunsky unit in 2004 and quickly demonstrated the professional qualities which led to being recognized for his exemplary work performance.

Always the first to help when needed, Officer Cairns maintains a positive attitude while performing his duties with dedication and competence.

Speaking to the audience after the presentation, the former chairman explained the motivation for his support of the annual staff award, saying, "They're a great group of people and I feel they need to be truly recognized for the work that they do."
