The Texas Department of Criminal Justice video teleconferencing system continues to grow extensively in size and utilization. Since the last article in 2000, the video network has gone through a major conversion, growing to 55 sites with all-new equipment. Utilization is as diverse as administrative meetings, statewide personnel training sessions, interviews, project management meetings, and distance learning/hearings for offenders. Currently, the combined locations installed across the state are at 23 TDCJ unit locations, 8 administrative locations, 12 parole locations, 7 officer training academy locations and 5 offender distance learning facilities. The video teleconference equipment is available to all TDCJ personnel regardless of where the equipment is located. The agency now has a video system located within an hour’s drive of all facilities. For information on how to schedule videoconferences or trainings, contact Deanie Rose or Frances Johnston at 936-437-1720.
