TDCJ employees honored for
volunteer service

On April 15, TDCJ employees Travis Morris and Tommie Haynes were recognized, along with 19 other award recipients, at the 2016 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Awards Ceremony in Austin. The ceremony, held annually since 1995, honors individuals and organizations for their volunteer work in support of the agency's mission to provide for public safety and rehabilitate offenders.

Lieutenant Travis Morris was honored with the TDCJ Employee Volunteer Award. Morris began his TDCJ career in 2001 and has been an active volunteer since 2007 when he began teaching the Celebrate Recovery class at the Gurney Unit. He has served as a positive role model at the Michael Unit where he currently works in support of restorative justice programs. Lieutenant Morris' practical and personal touch has helped him gain offenders' respect, and he continues to be a valuable asset in their rehabilitation and recovery.
