On December 1, 2010, Human Resources published a major reorganization of the personnel directives regarding leave benefits. The reorganization eliminated redundancy and consolidated the types of leave to help make the directives easier to use.
Most of the changes are to comply with the Family and Medical Leave Act, which was amended in January 2009 and has since been clarified by the U.S. Department of Labor. Additional changes were mandated by Texas statutes and executive management decisions.
PD-06 and PD-51 were eliminated, with their subject matter moved to other directives. Several procedural changes were made that benefit all TDCJ employees, such as greater flexibility regarding the types of leave you may use while taking Family Medical Leave (FML).
