BACKGROUND: In addition to her 16 years on the Board, Ms. Owens has five years in education as a school psychologist and drug prevention specialist, and 13 years in criminal justice and social services work as a probation officer, social worker, mental health field coordinator, grievance coordinator, case manager and court coordinator. She is a member of the Texas Corrections Association, the American Correctional Association and the Association of Paroling Authorities International, and a graduate of Leadership Texas. She also serves on the Texas State Council for Interstate Adult Offender Supervision. A licensed social worker, she serves on the Huntsville ISD Board of Trustees and the Sam Houston State University Alumni Board, where she also is a member of the President’s Circle.
