Survey of Organizational Excellence Work Group Dimension

Supervisor Effectiveness

Supervisor Effectiveness provides insight into the nature of supervisory relationships in the organization, including the quality of communication, leadership, and fairness that employees perceive exist between supervisors and themselves.

List of Survey Items:

  • We have an opportunity to participate in the goal setting process.
  • We seem to be working toward the same goals.
  • We are given the opportunity to do our best work.
  • We are given accurate feedback about our performance.
  • Supervisors know whether an individual's career goals are compatible with organizational goals.
  • People who challenge the status quo are valued.
  • Favoritism (special treatment) is not an issue in raises or promotions.
  • I receive adequate feedback from my supervisor that helps improve my performance.
  • Each employee is given the opportunity to be a leader.
  • Promotion decisions are made in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Merit raises ensure that workers are rewarded for good job performance.

Fairness

Fairness measures the extent to which employees believe that equal and fair opportunity exists for all members of the organization.

List of Survey Items:

  • My performance is evaluated fairly.
  • My supervisor is consistent when administering policies concerning employees.
  • There is a basic trust among employees and supervisors.
  • When possible, alternative work schedules (flex-time, compressed work weeks, job sharing, telecommuting) are offered to employees.
  • Favoritism (special treatment) is not an issue in raises or promotions.
  • Average work is rewarded the same as excellent work.
  • Merit raises ensure that workers are rewarded for good job performance.

Team Effectiveness

Team Effectiveness captures employees' perceptions of the effectiveness of their work group and the extent to which the organizational environment supports appropriate teamwork among employees.

List of Survey Items:

  • Work groups receive adequate feedback that helps improve their performance.
  • Decision making and control are given to employees doing the actual work.
  • There is a basic trust among employees and supervisors.
  • We are efficient.
  • There is a real feeling of teamwork.
  • Work groups are actively involved in making work processes more effective.
  • I receive adequate feedback from my supervisor that helps improve my performance.
  • Employees have an opportunity to make suggestions on ways to improve work procedures.
  • Employee productivity is high.
  • We "walk our talk."

Diversity

Diversity addresses the extent to which employees feel that individual differences, including ethnicity, age and lifestyle, may result in alienation and/or missed opportunities for learning or advancement.

List of Survey Items:

  • Every employee is valued.
  • We work to attract, develop, and retain people with diverse backgrounds.
  • Work groups are trained to incorporate the opinions of each member.
  • The people I work with treat each other with respect.
  • My close contacts and co-workers are quite different from people elsewhere in the organization.
  • Managers are committed to incorporating cultural diversity.
  • Co-workers value cultural diversity.
  • Diversity is valued in this organization.
