Survey of Organizational Excellence Organizational Features Dimension

Change Oriented

Change Oriented secures employees' perceptions of the organization's capability and readiness to change based on new information and ideas.

List of Survey Items:

  • We integrate information and act intelligently upon that information.
  • We have an opportunity to participate in the goal setting process.
  • My ideas and opinions count at work.
  • When possible, problems are solved before they become a crisis.
  • An effort is made to get the opinions of people throughout the organization.
  • We routinely use different people from different parts of the organization to solve problems.
  • New ideas suggested by employees are seriously considered for implementation.
  • Innovation in work is encouraged.

Goal Oriented

Goal Oriented addresses the organization's ability to include all its members in focusing resources towards goal accomplishment.

List of Survey Items:

  • Our goals are consistently met or exceeded.
  • We integrate information and act intelligently upon that information.
  • We have an opportunity to participate in the goal setting process.
  • We are efficient.
  • Employee productivity is high.
  • We "walk our talk."

Holographic (Perceptions of Consistency)

Holographic refers to the degree to which all actions of the organization "hang together" and are understood by all. It concerns employees' perceptions of the consistency of decision-making and activity within the organization.

List of Survey Items:

  • The work atmosphere encourages open and honest communication.
  • Decision making and control are given to employees doing the actual work.
  • We feel a sense of pride when we tell people that we work for this organization.
  • We feel our efforts count.
  • Within my workplace, there is a feeling of community.
  • An effort is made to get the opinions of people throughout the organization.
  • We know how our work impacts others in the organization.
  • My close contacts and co-workers are quite different from people elsewhere in the organization.
  • Information and knowledge are shared openly in this organization.
  • We routinely use different people from different parts of the organization to solve problems.
  • Employees know how their work impacts others in the organization.
  • Employees have an opportunity to make suggestions on ways to improve work procedures.
  • Work in this organization feels like it is "coming together."
  • The "buck stops here" describes how employees accept personal accountability.

Strategic

Strategic orientation secures employees' thinking about how the organization responds to external influence, including those which play a role in defining the mission, services and products provided by the organization.

List of Survey Items:

  • We are known for the quality of service we provide.
  • We know who our customers (those we serve) are.
  • We use feedback from those we serve to improve our performance.
  • We work well with other organizations.
  • We work well with our governing bodies (the legislature, the board, etc.).
  • We work well with the public.
  • We understand the state, local, national, and global issues that impact the organization.
  • I have a good understanding of our mission, vision, and strategic plan.
  • I believe we communicate our mission effectively to the public.
  • We conduct ourselves with offenders in a fair and consistent manner.
  • We know who benefits from our work.
  • My co-workers conduct themselves in a fair manner, as the public would expect.

Quality

Quality focuses upon the degree to which quality principles, such as customer service and continuous improvement, are a part of the organizational culture.

List of Survey Items:

  • We are constantly improving our services.
  • We produce high quality work that has a low rate of error.
  • We know who our customers (those we serve) are.
  • We develop services to match our customers' needs.
  • Outstanding work is recognized.
  • We have adequate resources to do our jobs.
  • We conduct ourselves with offenders in a fair and consistent manner.
  • My co-workers and I are constantly improving the way we perform our jobs.
  • We know who benefits from our work.
  • We develop procedures that increase the efficiency of our workplace.
  • Average work is rewarded the same as excellent work.
  • Work in this organization feels like it is "coming together."
  • My co-workers conduct themselves in a fair manner, as the public would expect.
