2010 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award

Ronald Fields, Extensive Travel

2010 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service AwardRonald Fields' passion for prison ministry is evident in his commitment in traveling from his home in Palacios, Texas, to Beeville, Texas and to Cuero, Texas, to volunteer at several TDCJ units, to include the Garza East Transfer Facility and Trusty Camp, and the Stevenson Unit. In 2009, he travelled 6,146 miles in his service to TDCJ. His prison ministry extends to county jails and prisons as far away as Brazil. As much as possible, Mr. Fields takes time to speak with the offenders one-on-one to encourage them and offer a listening ear. The offenders look forward to his visits and are inspired by his teaching. For his dedicated service to TDCJ and for the many miles he has traveled, Ronald Fields has been selected to receive the volunteer award for Extensive Travel.
