2009 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Awards

Stephen Wiest, Chaplaincy Department

2009 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service AwardStephen Wiest is a great example of a prison ministry volunteer. As the team coordinator for Rock of Ages Prison Ministry, he has helped provide Bible counseling and teaching, preaching and music on a consistent basis at the Sanchez and Lopez units in Edinburg, Texas.

As a Certified Volunteer Chaplain's Assistant, his service was felt the most this past year while the units were without a Chaplain. Mr. Wiest committed three days a week to the units to ensure the unique service that a Chaplain provides was available to staff and offenders. This was in addition to his standard counseling, teaching and music ministry.

For his dedication and commitment to the TDCJ Chaplaincy program, Stephen Wiest has been selected to receive the Chaplaincy Department Volunteer Award.
