2009 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Awards

Leonard Davis, Greatest Number of Hours

For the third time, Leonard Davis is being recognized for his extraordinary service to TDCJ. In his professional career, he retired first from the United States Air Force as a research chemist and second from Sunoil Company as a chemical engineer. He has also been a stockbroker for E.F. Hutton. His volunteer service with TDCJ is almost a full-time job as he volunteers approximately 40 hours a week assisting the Chaplain at the LeBlanc Unit in Beaumont, Texas. In 2008, he contributed 1,953 hours helping to change the lives of offenders. That is 169 more hours than he contributed the previous year! Mr. Davis is 79 years old and has been a volunteer for TDCJ since September 1994. He is highly respected by both unit staff and the offenders. Because of his continued dedication and commitment, Leonard Davis has been selected once again for the very prestigious Greatest Number of Hours Award.
