2008 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award

James, Substance Abuse Treatment Program

2008 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service AwardJames has been a volunteer for TDCJ since April 2001. Every Friday night he brings the offenders an encouraging message that they can change their life if they are willing. Through his work with 12-step programs such as AA and Winners Circle, he has touched the life of hundreds of offenders giving them hope for a better tomorrow. James has begun to partner with other volunteers so he can spread the message of hope to more offenders. Although James has been dealing with health issues, he still manages to minister every Friday night and give unselfishly of his time. For his commitment, dedication and perseverance, James has been selected as the recipient for the Substance Abuse Treatment Program award.
