2008 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award

J. Craig Brubaker

2008 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service AwardCraig Brubaker has been a Chaplaincy volunteer at the Connally Unit for six (6) years. Craig facilitates three (3) spiritual growth programs for offenders each week, participates in a weekly Kairos sponsored prayer and share time, a monthly Kairos sponsored "weekend retreat" and Kairos sponsored "walks" twice a year.

Craig was instrumental in helping develop and organize the Connally Unit Resource Center for visiting offender families and works hard at recruiting other volunteers. Craig is respected by the offender population because of his honesty, integrity and sense of fairness. He is an excellent communicator and has a compassionate heart for those incarcerated. He imparts a sense of morality and responsibility to the offenders he ministers to and helps prepares them for the outside world. He is a valuable asset to the Chaplaincy Department. He exceeds the expectations of his volunteer job description and is always willing to offer his help.

Craig's example for living and positive outlook sets the pace for others. Because of his untiring efforts, innovation and love for this unique ministry, Craig Brubaker has been selected to receive the TDCJ Chaplaincy Department award.
