2008 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award

Anchor Prison Ministry, Best Family Program

2008 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service AwardJames and Teresa Peterson of The Achor Prison Ministry has developed a "Day with Dad"; program that is fast becoming the most wanted program within the units of the Tennessee Colony area. The Achor Prison Ministry provides a unique day for offenders and their children to reconnect. This volunteer group organizes games for the offenders and their families to play, provides snacks and drinks, arranges a meal, provides counseling for the offenders and their families and encourages the offenders to commit to their role as a father and to their families. For a little while during this special day, the offenders forget they are in prison as they spend time with their family. This unique ministry is led by James and Teresa Peterson and has been selected to receive the Best Family Program Award.
